MANAGING SECURITY IN A COMPLIANCE-CRAZY WORLD

The laws seem to be shooting out of Congress like arrows aimed at the hearts and budgets of IT administrators across corporate America. FTC TAKES "BOLD" SPYWARE ACTIONS

In a bold move, the Federal Trade Commission has temporarily shut down a software vendor that used allegedly false scare tactics to increase sales. Bold, that is, if it had taken the action -- oh, say -- five years earlier. http://newsletter.infoworld.com/t?ctl=C5B5C6:353CA35

Stealthy, remote system access programs called "rootkits" could fuel the next big wave of malicious code, and are already beginning to influence the design of new Internet worms and viruses, according to security experts. PRODUCT GUIDE: WATCHGUARD FIREBOX X2500

The X2500 is a capable firewall with application-layer security for Web sites, e-mail, and FTP servers, plus spam filtering, anti-virus, and a sophisticated policy engine. Setup and administration are not for inexperienced security admins: Settings are required in several places to get most features running. More wizards for basic setup functions would be nice.
