Nokia is first to use integrated chip from Texas Instruments: "Finnish mobile giant Nokia will be the first to use new integrated chips developed by Texas Instruments. New technology helped to combine most of the computing functions of a mobile phone in a single microchip. 'This isn't an incremental step,' said Bill Krenik, manager of wireless advanced architectures for Texas Instruments. 'It's a big leap forward.' Texas Instruments announced that Nokia will be the first to use the advantages of the new technology. Finnish handset maker will start using a new generation TI chip in its lower-priced cell phones in 2006. Integrated chips will allow Nokia to make phones smaller, sleeker and more powerful. 'By incorporating TI's DRP (Digital RF Processor) technology into a single chip, Nokia mobile phones will provide the ideal mix of cool features and cost-effectiveness, making them more attractive to the mass market place,' said Juha Pinomaa, vice president of Nokia's entry business line.
